The schedule for the return of Toonami is now confirmed and is available on Adult Swim’s website. The new schedule is very much like the current Adult Swim anime schedule, except for two new additions:
and Casshern Sins.
The full schedule is as follows:
12:00 a.m. – Bleach
12:30 a.m. – Deadman Wonderland
1:00 a.m. – Casshern Sins
1:30 a.m. – Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
2:00 a.m. – Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex 2nd GIG
2:30 a.m. – Cowboy Bebop
After that, it just repeats the whole thing again.
Jason DeMarco has confirmed this schedule in this tweet:
So: New Toonami! First things first. For now, that IS the schedule. I know I said we wouldn’t tell you, but the higher ups changed that.
It is disappointing that they have not brought back the old shows that we know and love and Jason addressed that in the following tweets by saying:
We will not be showing Naruto, DBZ, etc for now. The rights to those shows are owned by our competition or are out of our price range. SPEAKING OF WHICH: Something you should know about THIS Toonami: We have very, very little $$. This experiment will need ratings success to receive more funding for new shows, more Tom animation, etc. I’m thankful for the $$ we’ve gotten, but it isn’t a lot. Toonami will have to prove itself to get more resources, just like it had to do when we first launched.
This also probably explains the extremely disappointing time slot for the segment. I don’t know about the rest of you, but I can’t stay up until 3:00 in the morning on Saturday night to watch TV. I’m going to have to record it somehow to watch later. Despite this, the important thing is that they are giving it a chance and seeing how the ratings go. I don’t know how you analyze ratings in that time slot, since there is not much to compete with and not a large group of potential viewers in the first place, but the important thing is that they are giving Toonami the chance to prove itself in the older demographic. What Jason said means that we need to continue to be supportive and spread the word to anyone that might be interested. The more viewers and interest, the more funding they can get. More funding means new shows, maybe classic shows, and hopefully a better time slot. I think the world can live without Delocated on at 9:30. I know I can.
More about what Jason DeMarco had to say in later posts.
